Spring League 2006 - Details

Who Can Play?

Anyone is welcome to play in Spring League. You don't need to be a student, you don't need to know how to play ultimate, you don't even need to know anybody else who plays. One of the main purposes of Spring League is to introduce new players to a sport that many of us already love. There's no reason to be shy if you haven't played before. Please fill out and sign the registration/waiver form, submit it and pay your entry fee, you're in!

What's the difference between Mixed and Open?

The Mixed Division will operate in the same way as our other leagues. We will attempt to put equal numbers of women on each team, and ask captains to make sure that both teams have the same number of women on the field as often as possible. For the Open League, however, we won't ask captains to do this. Women are welcome to play in the Open League, but we teams could be comprised mainly of guys.

Team and game time information

Teams will be composed of 15 people with 7 people on the field (for each team) at any point in time.

Directions to the Fields

Fuller Park is located at 1519 Fuller Road, on the way from central campus to north campus. Park in the main parking lot near the swimming pool. Head around behind the swimming pool and look for the flying discs.

How much does it cost?

The entry fee per person is as follows:
  • Paid online by Paypal: $25
  • Paid by Check: $30
Please make checks payable to "AAUSL".

Equipment You Will Need

You'll need a white t-shirt and a dark-colored t-shirt. In each game, each team wears a different colored shirt to make it easy to tell who is on which team. Soccer cleats and shorts or sweatpants will do quite nicely. Please also bring water to drink.

The Rules in Spring Ultimate

Normal rules of Ultimate will be used for Spring League, with heavy emphasis on Spirit of the Game.

If you're not familiar with the rules of ultimate, you can check out some simplified rules of Ultimate. If you can't get to sleep at night, you can always check out the complete rules. All Spring League games are played according to the 10th edition rules, with only a few minor modifications.

Except at the highest levels of competition, ultimate is generally played without referees. This works surprisingly well, because (a) the rules are pretty simple, and (b) there's a very high level of sportsmanship among ultimate players that we like to call "the Spirit of the Game." This means that while intense and athletic play is encouraged, intentional fouling and play that is dangerous to others are considered gross offenses against the spirit of sportsmanship. Because there are no referees policing our behavior in this league, it is especially important that all players uphold their responsibilities to play honestly, fairly, and safely.

In Spring League, we insist on great spirit from all teams. This means making sure players of all skill levels get plenty of chances to catch the disc, a positive attitude toward opponents, cheering the other team after every game, and showing lots of respect to players on both teams who are beginners.
